Counselling
Counselling (also known as talking therapy) is helpful in treating a number of different health conditions including:
The aims of counselling is to help people:
Everyone has different ways of coping with their personal difficulties. People often deal with stressful situations and events by talking to their partner, a family member or a friend. However, in certain situations, talking to a professional counsellor may prove more helpful.
Admitting you need help is a positive step
At some stage during your life, it is likely that you will experience feelings of stress, disappointment and grief. At these times, seeking assistance can help you deal with your feelings and emotions.
Counselling can be a positive way of addressing any unresolved issues that you have. It can help you to achieve a better understanding of your problems, rather than ignoring them and hoping that they will go away, only for them to resurface later. It can also help you to gain a better understanding of other people's points of view.

I see adults and children here at Dolphin. I have been in continuous supervised practice for 8 years and work with adults, children & young people, families, groups and organisations. I specialise in work with children & young people (both in and out of the school setting), looked after children and people with mental health difficulties. I manage the counselling service in two secondary schools: one in a special school (Social, Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties SEBD) and another within the therapeutic unit of a large mainstream school. I also work as a therapist contracted to childrens homes. I have a breadth of experience with looked-after children and with 11-16 year olds with behavioural issues. I also work as a specialist mentor (in Surrey & Sussex) for university students (adults) experiencing difficulty.
Areas of speciality include abuse, anger issues, anxiety, bi-polar, depression, self-harm, substance misuse, sex, pregnancy, relationships, existential issues, phobias, stress, trauma, loss, and life changes.
Several certificates in counselling and the two-year post-graduate diploma that followed it were both humanistic in approach but integrated an eclectic mix of person-centred, CBT, Gestalt, existential, phenomenological, art and play therapy approaches. My degree was an eclectic one that included psychology. This training supports a bespoke approach that is co-constructed between therapist and client in order to meet the clients needs.
I am a guest lecturer at a university where I lecture/facilitate workshops on self-support within the child protection arena. I am a full member of BACP (British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and Counselling for Children & Young People (CCYP). I have recently applied for BACP accreditation and UKRCP registration.
